Q+A with Madison Burton (aka @maddieburtonfitness)


Maddie (as some know her personally and on Instagram) is a serious burst of motivation, from an avid health and fitness lover, self love advocate and all round raw, real and incredibly relatable beautiful soul.

I first met Maddie in person when she travelled a fair distance in the early hours of the morning to attend a small event I was hosting in Brisbane, a potluck picnic with a few other beautiful souls. I was beyond grateful to not only get to meet her in person, but to have her loving support towards my journey, support she has given me ever since. Maddie is also a total #GirlBoss, she is a qualified dance teacher, personal trainer, group fitness instructor, lifestyle YouTuber and online coach of her own sparkling new business Maddie Burton Fitness. Maddie doesn't let anything stand in the way of her dreams or her personal goals, she doesn't just work on herself though, Maddie is always supporting others and being a constant source of inspiration throughout her own journey, during the ups and the downs, which is what I love most about her and why she is one of my biggest motivators to never give up on what sets your heart and soul on fire. A true inspiration inside and out. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and read on to get inspired and feel a little warm inside..

What is on your bedside table at the moment?

"The Universe has your back" Gabrielle Bernstein (one of my favourite books of all time).

And my Ivy and wood candle (lime and coconut). This is my happy place.

Creative, Loving, Motivated.

When did your journey begin, what was your turning point?

My first year out of home, about ¾ of the way through my Dance course to become a professional dancer, something kind of clicked for me in more ways than one. I wasn't truly, uncontrollably happy and I didn't feel like I really knew who I was. I broke up with my long time boyfriend who wasn't right for me, I stopped binging on ice cream and nutella in the crazy hours of the night and I started exercising. Slowly but surely. I didn't have any knowledge about anything health or fitness but once I started I was hooked. I spent so much time researching, talking to people, going to events and seminars and just soaked it all in. It has made me so much more confident and motivated as a person and it will only grow from here.

Where do you find inspiration, and how do you turn this into motivation?

I guess from myself, I am a highly self driven person. I don't need a gym buddy or someone to keep me in check. My inspiration is genuinely myself and the things I can achieve when I set my mind to something. I love that I can motivate myself to get my butt out of bed in the morning to go to the gym, to write in my gratitude journal, to go for a walk or to drink a green smoothie. It wasn't always easy, but once you know how it feels doing all of those things it is hard to go back!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone wanting to start their own journey towards their best self and life, what would it be?

Look deep in yourself and ask yourself WHY? Why are you wanting to start this journey? Make that WHY super clear so that you really understand how important this is to you. Once you are clear on that then you will be able to give it your all!

Favourite quote/mantra you hold close to your heart?

Start each day with a grateful heart.

Simple but god does it make a difference to every single day!

Lastly, what is your WHY? Your focus every day to get up and go again, the thing that makes you jump out of bed in the morning and share your sparkle with The Universe?

Haha I didn't even read this before I wrote my answer for the question before!

My why is that I never want to just live an average, or mundane kind of life. I crave to inspire and motivate my clients, friends, family and anyone else who comes to me for advice or help. I love helping change peoples lives for the better and to constantly be bettering myself as a person, mentally, physically and spiritually. So wanting all of those things gets me up and going every day to live my best life (oh that and coffee).
